# Adding a label doesn't automate assignment

If you have set up label-based routing, you might assume that just adding a label to a page will automatically trigger the approval request. However, this process only occurs if the label is detected during specific events, such as when a **page is created or updated**, depending on how you have configured the system.

Therefore, simply adding a label to an existing page without performing a create or update action will not result in the approval being assigned as you might expect.
